I began drawing at 5 years. By 8 years old I was given pastels and in a few years began using oil paints. The light of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the paintings of Wilson Hurley gave me directions for my own paintings. Artists say light is all that is worth painting. With both pastels and oils catching the light in the most beautiful colors is the way an artist can have to satisfy the drive to create. The complexity of landscapes can be daunting. The light is the way I make sense of shapes and distance.
